Once we leave college, many of us simply quit learning stuff. Sure, we read a book or two now and again, we watch the history channel and occasionally go to a museum, but it’s not the same. The learning switch in our mind has been turned to the OFF position.
As small business owners and entrepreneurs it’s a risky world out there and if we choose to keep the learning switch OFF, we will eventually fail. We must continue to learn. We must keep our minds open to knowledge, because this makes us able to adapt when times change – and they inevitably will.
Enter coworking facilities.
Coworking locations have become more than a place to go and work. They have become a mecca of learning. These creative spaces are being used as a place to foster ideas and to further educate people on various topics. They are helping to keep our minds turned to the ON position.
Enter The Armory.
Like many other coworking spaces, Jason Rohlf, the founder of The Armory, has decided to use his space as a place where educational workshops can be held on a regular basis. These inexpensive seminars help educate members and nonmembers about all sorts of topics related to small business ownership and entrepreneurship.
Past topics have been “Legal Brown Bag,” a lunch question and answer session with a local attorney, “How to Get Stuff Done,” professional secrets on how to manage your time more effectively from an expert, “Sales Tips” and “Web Development with Backbone.”
The Armory’s next workshop will be presented by yours truly. It’s a “Blogging Workshop” focusing specifically on blogging for business. I will give you tips on what sorts of topics to write about and how you can make this a relatively pain-free habit. For instance, you don’t have to write a 1000 word essay twice a week; three hundred words a week can be very effective at driving traffic to your website. I will also discuss the use of social media to promote your blog posts. These two marketing avenues dovetail together seamlessly and should be used in unity.
My blogging workshop will be held at 4 p.m. on March 5, 2013 in the conference room at The Armory, located at 411 Railroad Avenue in Loveland, Colorado.
Through Meetup.com, it’s easy to spread the word about educational opportunities. To keep an eye on what’s coming up at the Armory, go to Meetup.com/Loveland-Coworking-Community. To sign up for my blogging workshop, go here.
